New Year

A New Year’s update from WUTSTS Towers is more than overdue, right? Why yes, and we have two important news items to share with you. Firstly, we are delighted to announce that the super-talented Steve Sansum joined us in December as our new drummer. Seeing him behind the kit has been a real thrill – he’s already breathing crazy new life into our current batch of songs and we can’t wait to set him loose on upcoming material. The man has what I believe the kids of today refer to as ‘mad skillz’.

We have mixed feelings about our second bit of news, though. Our bassist Will has sadly left us to pursue a new musical project. We’ll miss him and his groovy bass lines loads, but his heart was always in lead guitar rather than bass and so we’re very much looking forward to hearing what his new punk/emo/experimental duo will come up with in the future!

So we’re starting January by holding auditions for a new bassist. The applicants are veritably queuing up and we’ll be seeing them over the next few weeks, with the view to filling the slot by the end of the month.

As soon as we’re back at 100% capacity, 2019 looks like being an epic second year for WUTSTS. Our main focus is to record and release our debut album, but we will of course be playing some gigs to road-test our new material, including (hopefully) some festival dates. There will be more news in due course (which may involve a big surprise…), but for now, everyone in the band would like to wish you – yes, you! – a very happy new year. May all your positive resolutions come to pass!

New drummer wanted!

Hello all,

We are looking for a new drummer due to our previous stick man, Lloyd, moving on. Thanks to him for being a big part of the band’s great first year – we have a bunch of really fun memories to remember him by. We wish him all the best for his next adventure!

But now we need a replacement.

EDIT: And, reader, we got him. See newer blog posts!

Back to the gigs

While we wait for our brand (ha ha ha) to be refreshed – this site may shortly look pretty different thanks to the wizardry of Paul! – we’re dipping our toes back into the gigging scene. Our first gig of the autumn is at The Thunderbolt on Wednesday 10th October, so it’s not far away. Come and join us for the debut of a new song, plus find out about our completely new (and nuts) method of deciding the set order. A brave experiment…

Our headline set is due to start at 10pm and we’re on for 45 minutes, but last time we played there we ended up starting a bit earlier than scheduled, so make sure you arrive in plenty of time!

Recordings update and next gig

We’ve been pretty radio silent recently (apologies!), but that’s because we’ve been beavering away on some recordings which will hopefully be released sometime this autumn on all your favourite digital platforms. Oh, and our lead guitarist’s wife has had a baby so he’s been a bit tied up! Anyway, the drum layers for all the tracks were recorded last Sunday and that was the final thing to do, so after a bit (a lot!) of mixing work and some final touch-ups, we’ll hopefully be there. More news as soon as we have it!

Our next gig is on Wednesday 10 October. We’ll be shaking off the cobwebs (it’s hard to believe that our last performance was the headline show at The Louisiana in June) at The Thunderbolt, and we definitely feel like there’s unfinished business at that venue. When we played there before, our lead singer Mike had just busted his foot so could barely move, and he could only just about sing due to a bad cold. So it was a difficult night! We got through the gig intact and the audience were very appreciative (thanks, guys!), but this time around we hope to show what we can really do. We’re headlining, so it will be 45 minutes of WUTSTS goodness. Plus, Mike can move again! We hope to see a lot of you there.
