Back to the gigs

While we wait for our brand (ha ha ha) to be refreshed – this site may shortly look pretty different thanks to the wizardry of Paul! – we’re dipping our toes back into the gigging scene. Our first gig of the autumn is at The Thunderbolt on Wednesday 10th October, so it’s not far away. Come and join us for the debut of a new song, plus find out about our completely new (and nuts) method of deciding the set order. A brave experiment…

Our headline set is due to start at 10pm and we’re on for 45 minutes, but last time we played there we ended up starting a bit earlier than scheduled, so make sure you arrive in plenty of time!

Recordings update and next gig

We’ve been pretty radio silent recently (apologies!), but that’s because we’ve been beavering away on some recordings which will hopefully be released sometime this autumn on all your favourite digital platforms. Oh, and our lead guitarist’s wife has had a baby so he’s been a bit tied up! Anyway, the drum layers for all the tracks were recorded last Sunday and that was the final thing to do, so after a bit (a lot!) of mixing work and some final touch-ups, we’ll hopefully be there. More news as soon as we have it!

Our next gig is on Wednesday 10 October. We’ll be shaking off the cobwebs (it’s hard to believe that our last performance was the headline show at The Louisiana in June) at The Thunderbolt, and we definitely feel like there’s unfinished business at that venue. When we played there before, our lead singer Mike had just busted his foot so could barely move, and he could only just about sing due to a bad cold. So it was a difficult night! We got through the gig intact and the audience were very appreciative (thanks, guys!), but this time around we hope to show what we can really do. We’re headlining, so it will be 45 minutes of WUTSTS goodness. Plus, Mike can move again! We hope to see a lot of you there.

Headliners!

Yes, we should write more blog posts. We will. We’re about to get ready for recording some stuff for release on all your favourite streaming platforms and hopefully on vinyl, which should lead to some witterings about development and decisions and INTERESTING CONTENT.

But until then, we’re left with the exciting matter of our headline show at The Louisiana on Sunday 24th June. Our first ever headline show in fact, our first weekend show, our first 45 minute set (we’ve been playing for half an hour everywhere until now). A weekend of firsts. We would never have believed at the start of the year, when the band wasn’t even yet fully formed, that we would have the opportunity to headline such a brilliant venue so early on in our nascent musical career. But here we are. It’s a great confidence boost to play somewhere and then be asked back in a better slot. It makes us feel that we’re doing something properly. And we’re really looking forward to this gig. It feels like the end of chapter one of this band’s story. The original short-term goal was pretty simple: ‘just’ to get to the point where we could play live. Well, we’ve done that and more, so now we’ll have to set some new, more ambitious goals! Where we go from here… well, let’s just say that we have exciting plans. 🙂

We’re playing 2 completely new songs at this gig, and 2 more that have only been played once before. The progression between where we were as a live act for our first gig at The Louisiana back at the beginning of April and where we are now is pretty big, so we’re hoping to pleasantly surprise those of you who saw us in our (very nervous) live debut!

As always, thanks to everyone who’s been supporting us along the way. We appreciate it more than you will ever know.

Mothers Ruin

We’re happy to confirm the details for our next gig, which is at Mothers Ruin in Bristol on Thursday 24th May. We’re on at 8.50pm. Entry is £5 and there are 2 other lovely bands playing too:

Four Dead Crows 8pm
We Used To See The Sky 8.50pm
Belles Of Moscow 9.40pm

We will be debuting at least one new song and are fighting to get another one in there too – depends on how the final rehearsal goes!

Studio Time

Tonight we return to the studio to work on some new material following our first couple of gigs. Getting our initial 7 song live set to be (relatively) slick was a lot of fun to sort out, but we have all been itching to play the newer songs that we left off the list and therefore haven’t had the chance to properly think about as a group for a while. Some of these should definitely become part of our ‘best’ 30 minutes, particularly the already legendary ‘Octave Up’.

So, with a few weeks to go until our next gig (details of that soon!), we have some time to do some recordings and add new songs to the set. The next targets for our live sound are to have a reliable 45 minutes and then a full hour. There are more than enough songs to go round, so the next few rehearsals should be awesome. And who knows, we may well have some new recordings to add to our Soundcloud soon…

Taming the Wolf

Thanks to everyone who came to our gig at Mr Wolfs on the 13th – we had a great time and were privileged to meet I Set The Sea On Fire, the awesome headliners, who were lovely people and whose company really made the evening fly by. We look forward to hopefully going back to Mr Wolfs in the near future, and evil plans are forming to go up to Sheffield to do some gigs with ISTSOF later in the year. We have also been contacted by another venue about a gig in a few weeks time, so we just need to confirm the details before announcing it.

We have a couple of videos to upload from Friday, and the one you can see below is The 28th. ‘But you said you only had a couple, ha ha.’ *Withering look*
